Our Club's History

Fairford Rugby Football Club has a rich history deeply intertwined with the local community and the sport of rugby.

Seniors

Early years (1994 - 2004)

Established in 1994 with friendly games at Southrop and Farmors School, the team then moved into Coln House School grounds and Gloucester Division 3.

The club also joined as a member of the Stroud District Combination, a body of 10 clubs that helps make up the Gloucestershire RFU.

Growth and Success (2005 - 2013)

In the 2005/2006 season, Fairford RFC achieved a significant milestone by winning Division 3 North of the Dorset & Wilts Leagues, losing only one game throughout the season.

2011 saw FRFC winning the Stroud Combination Junior Plate and another notable achievement came in the 2012/2013 season when they won Division 2 North.

Over the years, Fairford RFC moved between Division 2 and Division 1 of the Dorset & Wilts Leagues, showcasing their competitive strength and consistency in the regional rugby scene.

Relocation & Rebuild (2013-2022)

In 2013, Fairford RFC underwent a significant change by moving from its base at the Marlborough Arms to a new location at the Cricket Club. This relocation wasn driven by various factors such as accessibility and partnership opportunities.

In the 2015/2016 season, Fairford RFC took a strategic decision to withdraw from the league for a rebuilding season. This period involved restructuring the team and focusing on player development to ensure long-term success.

After re-entering the league system, in 2017 FRFC went onto win the Stroud Combination Junior Cup and then later on in the season had an inspiration talk by none other than Nigel Owens.

Continuing The Legacy (2023-Present)

Despite the challenges and changes throughout its history, Fairford Rugby Football Club remains a resilient and integral part of the local community. With a foundation built on camaraderie, sportsmanship, and a passion for rugby, the club continues to uphold its values while striving for success on and off the field. As they navigate the ever-evolving landscape of grassroots rugby, Fairford RFC stands poised to embrace the future while honoring its storied past.

Juniors

Pierce Hubbard Miles was the first Youth Chairman and it began with a handful of children enjoying themselves every Sunday morning. With the help of previous President, Dave Bowman, it wasn’t long before we had a hand full of fixtures within the County.

Playing most Sunday mornings at Farmors School we enjoyed success through four age groups soon to grow to as many as 10 age groups from under 6’s to under 15’s in 2011. We hit the top in 2013 with In excess of 120 junior members.

Financial success over the last 5 to 6 years has come from our very successful mobile catering unit along with healthy shop sales for junior kit.

In 2014, the club managed to secure the tenancy on just over 7 acres of land thanks to the Ernest Cook trust. With lots of hard work in 2015 we have managed to get this land playable and enjoyed our first game in October 2015
